About Our Ambassador Program

The Porto Charities Ambassadors are dedicated to cultivating relationships between Porto Charities andour local school, parish and community stakeholders. Being a Porto Ambassador is an opportunity forfellowship and collaboration as we work together to promote Porto Charities’ mission of improving andexpanding educational and employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual anddevelopmental disabilities in the Diocese of Arlington.

Ambassador Benefits: 

  • Volunteer with others who share Porto Charities’ commitment to the belief that all individuals with special needs are part of God’s creative work and should have opportunities to receive an enriching, inclusive Catholic education and to seek meaningful employment.

  • Join a community of parents, advocates and friends of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to benefit from fellowship, support and networking opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison with school and/or parish leadership to find opportunities to build awareness of Porto Charities and provide feedback to Porto Charities on how we can better serve the community;

  • Pray to the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance for our diocese, schools, parishes and their leaders as we work together to build a culture of true belonging for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our communities;

  • Collaborate with parish and/or school staff to identify communication tools (websites, bulletins, newsletters, social media, etc.) to share Porto Charities’ information and messages.

  • In partnership with Porto Charities staff, help promote school, parish, or organization’s involvement in Porto's special events (such as our annual Gala, golf tournament and Christmas party) as well as fundraisers and volunteer opportunities; and

  • Participate in semi-annual Porto Ambassador calls/meetings to learn about Porto Charities activities and initiatives and to share ideas together about furthering the mission of building a culture of belonging in our communities.
