Tuition-Free Intro to Special Education at GMU

Porto Charities empowers educators through our
Tuition-free Introduction to Special Education at George Mason University.

In collaboration with George Mason University, Porto Charities will sponsor tuition for 25 individuals working or volunteering at schools and parishes in the Diocese of Arlington who wish to participate in EDSE 501: Introduction to Special Education at George Mason University.

 

This three-credit graduate-level course provides an overview of the foundations, laws, and types of disabilities recognized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and will be delivered in a fully asynchronous online format. Participants will receive three graduate-level credits that can be applied toward a master's or certificate in Special Education.

 

Educators, administrators, catechists, clergy, and religious working or volunteering in the Diocese of Arlington are eligible to apply. If you would like to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, please sign up below to receive more information regarding enrollment.

Class is offered annually. The next course will start on September 14, 2026, and run through December 11, 2026. The cutoff date to register is October 19, 2026.
